Liezl was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. After matriculating, she studied dentistry at the University of Stellenbosch and qualified as a dentist in 1986. She moved to Pretoria and lectured on facial anatomy. During these years at the University of Pretoria, she attended a conference where she was exposed to art by the well-known South African artist, Dale Elliot. Liezl was so inspired by him, that she attended art lessons given by Dale in 1998. This inspired her to become a full time career artist.
Liezl’s love for colour and textures is clearly visible in her artwork. During her years in Pretoria, she helped decorate homes all over South Africa. Her paintings are marketed through art galleries and art exhibitions.
In 2012, Liezl and her family moved back to the Cape and now reside in Stellenbosch. She has since been focussing on large portraits of women with specific reference to facial expression and vivid colour. She brings out a softness in many of her paintings but also successfully demonstrates the strength and confidence in the facial expressions of women in a changing world.
