Selwin's Biography

Selwin Pekeur was born in South Africa in 1957 and has been a full-time career artist since 1998.

Selwin was a former art teacher who studied under the well-known South African artists, Amos Langdown and Peter Clarke. In this capacity he was appointed as convenor of his school’s art projects. He was involved in organising workshops and art exhibitions for children’s art and young and upcoming artists. Selwin is a founder member of the E’Bezweni Art Group (E.A.G.) established in Paarl in October 1994. Other members of this art group are Solomon Siko, Kerwin Cupido, Dylan Denyssen and Alby Bailey.

A positive influence in the new South Africa ( 1994) , Selwin chooses to explore humour as a force to bridge the cultural divide rather than redefine the fault lines that have separated the Cape communities of the past. Laughter heals. The viewer observes an intimate moment of family life on a summer afternoon in a township home. Selwin’s figures are imaginative creations, captivating and festooned in colourful adornment.

Selwin loves to experiment with different materials, media and techniques. He enjoys working as a sculptor, print maker and paints in oil and acrylic. His work has been sold successfully to collectors from Germany, France and Luxembourg.
